Thanks. We deadhead a lot out of Emeryville to Calwa account of 2:1 ratio with Richmond crews over the BNSF portion, (which continues west out of CTC Pt. Chicago onto TWC/ABS up over the hill through Franklin Canyon to Richmond on the Santa Fe). This line on the BNSF doesn't see a great deal of traffic as compared to other lines account it's a 'dead-end at the water' and also more recent traffic and crew district changes. I only see this portion of the deadhead as an Amtrak passenger, and usually on the other side of the coach as it is more scenic and doesn't get the glaring sun through the window.
That's an interesting bit of insight on the SP/ATSF crew handling- too bad they only got a basic day out of the deal. And I sure hope a certain someone doesn't form an armchair investigating subcomittee on what those crews did on their spot time between runs. Hopefully, they weren't shoplifting.
Even though I wrote Carquinez earlier, I wasn't entirely sure my memory was correct. Thanks for updating that to refer to its correct name!
