I saw him driving down Cali 99 in Sacramento one time in an old "beat up" pick-'em-up with s broomstick sticking up, license plate "Mach 1". Honked! Gave him a thumbs up and got one back. Haven't washed that thumb since. If you've read his writings you see a quintessential "Fighter Pilot" to whom all of us looked up. Now we are really looking up to him! RIP.
