No idea. Some components perhaps recycled as cores. Perhaps deals were made on case by case basis. I see photos of Alco trucks re-used on EMD power that was then resold to the railroad. I assume most trade-ins were simply scrapped.
My questions remains, why did they "trade in" stuff, instead of just selling it to a metal scrapped directly? I suspect EMD/GE liked to get used power out of the market, hence the trade-in program.
