In Chicago one could assume that Passenger train moves would be routed via St Charles Air Line between Union Ave (Q) and Weldon (IC Central Station).

Freight could go via St Charles Air Line to Randolph Street Yard (now covered with Illinois Center development)

Other freight connections were from Cicero Yard (Q) to Hawthorn Yard (IC west lines) via the Chicago & Illinois Western - owned by IC.

In the era you asked about there could have been troop trains via Centralia Illinois as well as freight.

Q also connected with the IC at Rockford
