The overpass needed at this location is different that most "simple" overpasses. It has to cross 5 lanes of Sampson Avenue, a flood control channel and the BNSF Railway. There also really isn't much room between any of these to install bridge piers. So a single span, tied arch bridge is planned. Basically a pair of structure arches will run from abutment to abutment with the bridge deck suspended underneath it by cables. This allows for the span length and a fairly shallow bridge deck compared to a steel or concrete span. That is one of the main reasons for its increased price tag.
