Well, I don’t know anything about steam loco fire boxes. But that 3/8” steel “fire pan” and Venturi arrangement for the fuel nozzle was quite interesting to me.

Interesting point: They did not duplicate why UP did on the 4005. I wonder why not?

Did that fire box work need to be approved by various ‘Authorities Having Jurisdiction’ such as a state boiler inspector or FRA? Wonder if a licensed Mechanical Engr had to sign off on it too? Interesting looking design.

Oh... he is wearing short sleeves in Winter. I thought the shop was cold after the false ceiling was removed. At least that’s what I heard???
