About a year and a half ago, we were westbound trying to get from CP Shellmound to the UP's Desert Yard, and came upon a red over red over flashing red. I swore it meant we would be crossing over twice in the plant. It didn't mean anything but Proceed at Restriced Speed. We were lined straght through.
NEVER assume your lineup under Restriced Speed. Restricted Speed signal aspects are indicated by colored drawings in the the host railroads' System Special Instructions. As it happens on my employer's property, there are MORE THAN 10 DIFFERENT indications meaning...Restricted Speed!
Red with a number plate, Lunar, Flashing red over lunar, Flashing red, Dark aspect with a number plate, Lunar over red over red, Red over Red over Red with a number plate, and more...
Now here's one you seldom see: Flashing yellow over lunar...anyone want to take a stab at it? Hint: Eastbound off the Mojave Sub coming into Barstow (prior Santa Fe)
