Because Jerry grew up on the Nickel Plate Railroad, and just loved those NKP 700 class Berkshires. His goal was to own one, restore it, and operate it on a main line. He was involved in the early restoration of NKP 765, and as he became more successful with the Ohio Central RR, he subsequently began building his roundhouse, and acquired NKP 763 out of Roanoke, VA. As much as he loved steam power, he really had no desire to own/operate a narrow gauge railroad like EBT. There is absolutely NOTHING like a NKP 700 at 60 to 70 MPH on the main line!
