As I recall, the plant across Castro was the Allied Chemical sulfuric acid plant. The little tank cars were super heavy and would blow right through the hump retarders like they were not there, so they all had to be ridden to brake. The plant on the east side of the hump was nasty, may have been Ortho. Did Chevron ever own Ortho? Santa Fe's Indian Village was a short distance away on the east side and I could never understand how they could stand it down wind.
Siever Ave. was a busy place, you had Safeway and Mutual there which took forty cars a night. On the other end you had Texaco and Channel Lumber. You had to talk to the Santa Fe yardmaster to go over there. A lot of memories.
