I don't remember a connection to BART from the Emporium, but that may have happened then later been closed. My family did most of its non-toy shopping in the Emporium basement...

I vaguely remember the Emporium-Capwell merger. Emporium-Weinstock was something I read about; had moved out of the area by then. The only building left with the Weinstock name on it is the downtown Sacramento store at 12th/K Streets, which was turned into offices back in the 1980s. Very pretty "historic" restoration of the public spaces; the elevators still have the department names for the floors (my memory is foggy, but Transportation Planning may have been at "Lingerie").
