The tracks at Tobin, Twain, and Quincy Jct. connect to the main on both ends, like a siding. But for operational purposes, they are not sidings nor are they controlled track. UP refers to them as "Business Tracks". If you were to clear up on one, the DS cannot see your occupancy and if you had to re-enter controlled (main) track from one, you would need verbal authority. Also, there is no PTC on the Canyon Sub.
Some of you guys would get brain freeze in Alaska where on the Alaska Railroad not only has hundreds of miles of DARK (unsignaled, track warrant control) territory, but also with a PTC overlay. Never say never.
