I'd agree, but there may have been no choice. Duck & cover, and the train would probably go into emergency on its own. Could also be that after the hit trash got under the train and broke an air line or hose - that happened to one Amtrak I was on after it hit trash piled on the track. And in this case hitting the truck at speed did push it off to the side rather than derailing the train.
