Here is a recap of Amtrak use of Santa Fe buildings in downtown Fresno: When Amtrak started up in 1974, they used the old Santa Fe passenger station. A number of years later, Amtrak moved out of that building and into the old Santa Fe freight office (which was indeed "hard to access" for disabled people). Still later, Amtrak moved back to the old Santa Fe passenger station, where Amtrak remains today.

In his second post, FUD wrote of the Bakersfield UP depot:

> ... it's the old SP station, that hasn't had passenger service since 1971. So if somebody "rescues" it, they will have to move it somewhere away from the railroad.

The former SP depot in Fresno was "rescued" without it being moved away from the railroad.
