The 20 locomotives ended up being sent to American railways and to the Companhia Paulista de Estradas de Ferro because of the breakdown of commercial relations between the USA and the USSR during the Cold War. In the United States, railroaders refer to it as Little Joe Stalin's locomotives, which over time has been simplified to just Little Joe.
