Molasses tank car blows its top!

The news article says the molasses car "exploded", but it looks more like the hatch blew out from internal pressure.

Location is Cannon Falls, MN. I wonder if its the old Chicago Great Western?

So why would a molasses car blow up anyway? Do they fill the car with pressurized steam?
