What? No future for rail? But what about that container super port that was going to be built on Humboldt Bay? And if heavy industry is to have a future in that region, rail service might be something to try and preserve. The State of Georgia understands this.
It's easier for a traffic representative to ink new contracts if the railroad is there than it is to try and negotiate something like that with a requirement that the track has to be re-laid.
Seriously though, why can't we have the best of both worlds? Can't a rail line and a trail peacefully coexist alongside each other? There have been other applications where this has happened. Why does it have to be either/or?
