With regard to the air horn, I think I read that when the Coast Daylight was dieselized in 1955 residents along the route expressed disappointment that they no longer heard the familiar sound the GS class locomotives' air horns. So SP was persuaded to install them on the PAs assigned to 98 & 99. Don't know if any F units were similarly equipped.
