UP 4014 Oil Conversion Questions

Will anyone with oil burning steam locomotive knowledge care to comment on why 4014‘s oil firing system is insufficient. The fearless leader claims it works great but there is evidence to suggest otherwise. If it works so good I want to see him pull a stack train like the 3985 in 1990. But I don’t think we will be seeing that anytime soon.
