Every LPN list omits the big IP sawmill, plywood, and woods operations at Vaughn, OR. I worked on the track systems there for some time. We used to do our own switching, until the cars got too big, and the old 44-tonner got too small. Then SP did the daily work for us. The track ran right through my back yard, and a couple of times, the train itself ran into my back yard. The Vaughn mill actually made most of the money for IP, and furnished crew and parts for the new sawmill in Gardner, in the early 80's. Our old mill was then shut down, with most of us out of work. The new owner did not hire most of us.
