It makes perfect sense for Roaring Camp to take this over. And there is freight traffic in Watsonville if a reliable operator can be in control.

Iowa Pacific's Santa Cruz and Monterey Bay was making a good run of it. From what I understand, it was mainly IP's other issues that brought the system down and impacted the Watsonville operation, not anything inherent to its traffic.

You've got several cold storage and food processing places, the biofuels plant, Martinelli's, Big Creek Lumber and the food distributor in Watsonville. All these took cars in the IP / Progressive era. Add a transload and you could tap wider customers. And on the Roaring Camp side, San Lorenzo Lumber took cars in recent years. Could still be an option for a transload or industry on the west side of Santa Cruz.
