Neither of those were backup moves. Yes, the locomotive was running backward, but that is the same as a diesel running long hood forward, which is not frowned-upon by any means.

In those two videos, both people were idiots and would have done the same thing if the locomotive was running forward. The headlight and whistle are just as bright and loud on the other end.
