North Platte: Watching trains *and* birds?

If you wanted to watch both birds and trains at the same time, in the North Platte area, where would you go? The Platte River is decent for birds, but... where can you see it and see the tracks (from not too far away)?

Obviously, there's the bridge over the North Platte on the east edge of the town. Is there a good place to park there?

Are there other places I should consider?
