That judge you blocked coming into work from San Marino, who got blocked by the train on Alameda Street, had the phone number... That and blowing crossings with an air horn in Beverly Hills, all too often got a call placed into Number One Market Street. So all engines were equipped with PE air whistles in Beveraly Hills, and you stayed off of Alameda, after 7 am as best as possible.....
On the afternoon jobs, on Alamenda, back in the early 70's, all gone to night jobs by around 72 (IIR?), except when the Christnas tree job was on to 8th Street. So they would switch at the links and set up their cut and wait to go on street until after 6 p.m., but could sneak out a bit earier as the traffic broke early during the winter months.
Alameda Street was some great car handling, dark alley leads, old timey carload railroading...
