He was in several films with Burt Reynolds. While most everyone remembers Ned from Deliverance, ( You SHORE got a PRETTY Mouth ), I liked his work in Stroker Ace, and also White Lightnin, where he played the bad guy sheriff.
Ned Beatty also received an accidental compliment, courtesy of a mis - spoken NASCAR announcer. During one of the early - day Winston Cup events at Phoenix International Raceway ( maybe the 1st in 1988 ? ), NASCAR's Chief Inspector - Dick Beaty was recognized for his upcoming retirement; in so doing the track announcer " Proudly proclaims the garages will now be be named The NED Beatty Garages !!!
