Perhaps the guy sitting on the right side who was being aggressive with the throttle played the biggest role in that firebox re-ignition event.

Someone smart wrote: "Seems like the engineer was being pretty cavalier with what I would call a hotdog start especially when running downgrade. He could have backed off and given the fireman a chance to catch up once they saw the fire was out."
