If they have been planning a re-opening for so many years, why did they remove the block signals? They could have been mothballed in place, but they're mostly gone - mast and all; from Nichols all the way to near Tracy.

There are a couple left out along the old Byron Highway all shot-up - but that road has forever been a favorite haunt of highwaymen, who apparently have nothing else to shoot at when traffic is light. Keeping the signals in that area in one piece was a problem even way back when it was a major SP route to the south.
