Amtrak reported a lot of problems yesterday around the Steel Bridge - signals among other things - producing huge delays and cancellation of some Cascades trains. Almost certainly heat-related, and Tri-Met is on the top deck of the bridge (railroads below) so that might have been part of their problems. Portland is supposed to reach 114 or 115 today (peaked at 111 at PDX airport yesterday), so it makes sense to just bag the trains and stick with buses. Even then, I wouldn't be surprised at pavement buckling problems today.

Last time I was in the area, visiting with some in-laws, it was in the 90s (in July - more common then - and with bad smog) and we ended up doing some of the last-minute shopping because being California people our car had a/c...
