I posted the answer.

If I was in the SP K.Falls gang, getting my rest in the Dun-KF pool. If the BN needed a passenger qualified Engineer to take ATK from KF to Bieber they would have SP furnish the pilot per agreement provisions.

Same thing if I was getting my rest in K. Falls. ATK shows up for Dunsmuir and there are no rested engineers qualified passenger to Dunsmuir. They would use an engineer that was qualified and run him around the pool. Again, per agreement provisions.

With the 49, the pool engineer that was first out in Dunsmuir would be called to K. Falls. The same if the 49 showed up in K. Falls and needed a man to go to Dunsmuir.

Usually, Officers told the crew dispatchers WHO to call and who they wanted on those type trains.

Im sure that has all changed by now. I did have some steam under my belt from the Army but nothing like the 49. Mac is a good hoghead and takes care of the equipment.
