The roundhouse will not be exactly like it was in San Jose. It's use was discontinued after the 1989 earthquake due to damage it received and it being an unreinforced brick building. The rebuilt/new roundhouse will have reinforcement in the walls to meet earthquake code. How that is done is up to Randy - he's the architect.
There are pictures of it after the 1906 earthquake showing part of one of the walls collapsed but the main structure stayed standing. So the basic design wasn't horrible. But the brick walls do need to be stronger.
I believe that it also can't look exactly like it did in San Jose because the front of the stalls were open. It will have to be more secure than it was in SJ so some sort of doors will have to be installed. This will be to protect the equipment stored inside and to keep the homeless from moving in.
So in the long run it will be a new construction using original materials where possible and hopefully looking pretty close to the San Jose Roundhouse.
