Prediction: the ALC-42E (Charger with a pantograph) will be California’s “HSR” motive power for at least a decade, until the southern mountain crossing is done. It will do 125 mph on Bako - Merced, and continue seamlessly as diesel over Altamont Pass (ACE / Valley Link) into the Bay Area, or onwards up the Central Valley to Sacramento. It’s a much better interim setup than 220 mph super trains + feeder bus service.
