Interesting contrast with Europe after the war. Their electric transit systems were destroyed and they rebuilt them. Ours in the US were merely worn down, and we decided they were too expensive and too far gone to repair so we scrapped them. (Big sigh).

The personal automobile-as-savior fantasy hit a brick wall soon after.
