It remains to be seen how much damage there is to the infrastructure, but if it is catastrophic, I can't imagine that the will, and certainly not the need, is there to rebuild this line once again. Spending tens of millions of dollars every 25 years, first for floods and now forest fires, for a secondary line goes against everything 21st century railroad executive support and fund. Flooding on the Eel River ended the NWP after much of the line had been totally rebuilt from an earlier flood in the early 60's. I'm afraid this may be a case of "enough is enough".
