You aren't paying attention. New York City elected a former police captain to become the Democratic candidate for mayor in this year's primary. He is viewed as a centrist candidate.
Socialism has nothing to do with incarceration/decarceration or notions of justice.
Here's the definition of Socialism:
"any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods."
Roads, bridges and highways, predominantly owned by public sector entities comprise socialist infrastructure.
Thus, the Green Bay Packers is a socialist entity because it is collectively owned by the community.
The Cincinnati, New Orleans & Texas Pacific Railroad (currently operated by Norfolk Southern) is owned by the City of Cincinnati. That makes it a socialist enterprise.
When I watched the Republican National Convention last year, I heard many speakers whip up fears of the US becoming a socialist nation of Biden was elected. NOT ONE speaker called for roads, bridges and highways to be sold to the private sector or for the City of Cincinnati to divest itself of the railroad line it owns. No one called for dissolving the Green Bay Packers and reformatting the team as a private concern. Well if those Republicans tolerate all of that, I am not convinced that socialism is as bad is they said it is.
