I was sort of waiting for someone to bring up the divorce. There are always two sides to every story, if not more. I know there are a lot of people in the railfan world that point to the divorce as the reason for the railroad’s demise. In all reality, no, it wasn’t. Any analysis of the overall economic situation of that operation shows it only made economic sense given a specific set of circumstances that ceased to exist after 1979. Jeff Forbis deserves a lot of credit for extending the life of that railroad, but the end would have been the end regardless of personal circumstances.
