No imaginary carfloats for this stack train sea reroute, just spend a fortune in handling costs to load them on a container ship at Oakland, instead, and dray them back from Tacoma... As I said, the costs of these retroutes, begin to make opening up the tunnels on CORP look cheap. The line would also need more serious work, as well.
And, it may have had to be Oakland, because LA-LB have been too plugged with ships and trains, although some of that has eased.
The photo's were great, BN has a lot of burnt track work, and wood work on those bridges to replace. But, as it shows in some of the pictures, a lot of those bridges were steel concrete bridges, and hopefully there wasn't as much heat damage to concrete or warping the steel. And, as others have noted, the visible damage often looks worse, than the structural damage, and repairs can potentially be done fairly quickly.
I'm kind of shocked in a couple of the photos I've seen that there had not been a lot more brush and tree clearance to reduce fire exposure around these structures? There have been a a few other fires up in these areas and along these line, just in my lifetime, and I can't recall quite this level of damage to the RR structures.
