Service Advisory: Due to a weather-related track closure east of Grand Junction (GJT), California Zephyr Service between Denver (DEN) and GJT could be affected on 7/31. For reservation assistance, please text or call 800-USA-RAIL.
That's saying it a bit mildly. Essentially, all service west of Denver is cancelled. Trains of the 29th are cancelled west of Denver; not clear where along the line #6 terminates, if indeed it even left Emeryville. Trains of the 30th are cancelled between Denver & Grand Junction; not clear if buses will connect. Weather Service posts a
flash flood watch in the area.
Edit: looks from the train tracking websites like #6 of the 29th made it to Grand Junction and turned there to return as #5. Perhaps there were unadvertised buses connecting from Denver. #5 apparently turned at Denver.
For those slobbering over the prospect of a detour via Sherman, forget about it. Amtrak doesn't do that any more. Expect a DZ rather than a CZ until the weather in the mountains calms down and UP cleans up.
