The 2 groups are NOT the same. The Gold Hill Historical Society is not associated with the Feather River, they just ended up with the #8 after John Tyson let the non profit status of the #8 go. Mike Tackett was my father, and I'm fairly well caught up on what's happened to the old engine. I just don't have the time, money, or knowledge like my father had to save this engine.

I cannot provide much details as to the current state of the #8 but this is what I do know. Since Mike Tackett, my father, passed away the Feather River Shortline lost it's non profit status with the state of California. In that time the Gold Hill Historical society took the engine over, but then lost their status with the county. As of currently the #8 is sitting at a mine yard, and Kim Fegert former member of the Gold Hill Historical society, is attempting to sell the engine but has not had any interest in it that I'm aware of. I'm currently trying to track down John Tyson who was the last CEO of the Feather River Shortline before the paperwork lapsed. I'm also seeking out Kim Fegert to see what can be done about this because that engine doesn't deserve to rot away like it is currently. If anyone would like to help to see what we can do about saving the Feather River #8 my email is
