Polar Express actors -- Scary for children?

I notice THE POLAR EXPRESS™ train actors wear very artificial facial expressions that are borderline freaky. It makes me feel there is a nightmarish subplot to the story similar to The Shining.

I wonder if some children get nightmares from these actors? I know I was terrified of clowns and department store Santa's when I was a kid.
