"Five man" UTU crew? On the SP the (UTU) train crew consisted of conductor and two brakemen (for switching jobs this was the engine foreman and two helpers). On my fingers, that's only three crew members, so who were the other two? And don't say engineer and fireman because the E was covered by a different union with its own, separate agreement (BLE), and the F had more or less been done away with by the UTU predecessor BLF&E in the mid-1960s. The BLE never was and probably never will be part of the UTU, by whatever name it goes by these days.
