Remember, science isn't a destination, it's a voyage.
Science is done by scientists (surprise!). They write papers explaining their work. Those papers are reviewed by anonymous referees and the papers are sent back to the authors for revision. Once everyone agrees, the papers are published in a journal. Then everyone in the field gets to agree or disagree, or come up with new data to prove or disprove the results.
Global warming research has been going on for a very long time, in fact before there was a Republican Party. Here is a summary of the
