Yesterday morning I learned that yet another one of my good railfan friends passed away. Clive Carter, author of a number of great books on both UK and US railways passed away on 9 June 2021 of heart failure. He was 87. Originally from York England, he was an engineer employed by de Havilland. Clive and family moved to Bellevue Washington in 1966 to take a job at Boeing. Already being a train enthusiast from a young age, he became familiarised with American railways and eventually put out several books on PNW railroads, including Spokane, Coeur d'Alene and Palouse Railway and Spokane International Railway. (A forthcoming book on 2 Milwaukee Road branch lines in Washington and Idaho is at the publisher now). Clive, wife Ann and son David moved to Dunoon Scotland in 2013 to live out their retirement years.
