That's actually kind of cool. Like a Sunraycer on rails. With lower rolling friction of steel on steel, it should be more efficient than the car was. Main issue (as the story noted, the tracks were surprisingly - to the promoter - uneven) will be making it light AND strong enough to move for extended distances on rails.

Next stop - across Australia! Maybe.
