The article noted that they were testing a kill switch in case the brakes failed, so presumably there's braking of some kind. If they get fancy enough with the electronics, they could easily have regenerative braking, but that would also imply a battery to receive the regenerated power, or resistors for dynamic braking, and I don't see much space in the vehicle in the picture for stuff like that. Probably that's for V. 1.0; what they have now is beta-test.
