The /big Chinese Rail Projects

For maybe ten yeaers, we've been seeing periodic hype about two Chinese rail projects, the Silk Road, a China-Europe connection via central Asia, and a South American transcontinental between Brazil and Peru. I keep looking for concrete info on necessary new construction and how they intend to deal with multiple breaks in track gauge. In fact, I would almost think both proposals, if serious, would actually require new parallel alignments in standard gauge a la Australis. Otherwise, they're just pie in the sky. Can anyone point me to serious news about these projects?
