That is definitely a California comment. Those of us who have left California have found that it is true that the weather is not as nice where we have moved to. But we have also found that you can pay cash for a house that is twice as big as your CA home and still have cash in your pocket. Maybe not every day is nice but you appreciate the ones that are more. You also become acclimated so you learn to deal with whatever the weather is. When it's too cold or too hot it gives a good reason to relax and spend some time model railroading. I went from spending more than an hour commuting in CA to spending only a few minutes on the road each way. The time I save is my time to do with what I want. Is there a real estate bubble in Texas and other popular states from the CA exodus? Yes, that's probably true. I think it's driven by speculators and people like me searching for a better way of life. But the Bay Area real estate bubble seems pretty scary too. Who knows if the market can sustain the growth that it had. I feel sorry for people buying a small tract home for 1.5 mil who will be paying 15 to 20 grand a year in property taxes. Would I move back? If CA was able to turn the clock back to being affordable, not so crowded and not on fire all the time then yes I would. But I don't see that happening.
