The French do know about occupation. But they can still be prickly when stuff happens. As in: US-French and Australian-French (but mostly US-French) relations are now at a "critical" stage with France having recalled its ambassadors to both countries. The casus belli is the sudden decision by Australia to buy nuclear subs from the US rather than French contractors. [www.reuters.com]
