There is enough traffic to make the SL&RG viable. It is a difficult RR and has to be run smart - which is hasn't always been. The excursion trains were popular and can also be viable - again, if run smart. The excursion business must enhance - not distract from - the freight operation. The freight business should be aggressively marketed. Granted, they are hindered by UP which is their only connection. A way should be found - or forced - to allow access to BNSF in Walsenburg. Public ownership of the RR may be an option but I don't know if the local counties or the state would want to do (pay) for that.
I see no logical reason for the C&TS to be interested. While railfans may fantasize about running up to Alamosa as in the days of old this makes less than no sense. It will be interesting to see what happens....
