Aviation and freeways have come a long ways since 1940.

Meanwhile you cannot get a streetcar on High St. in Columbus nor a trolley bus on Geary in SF. Moderate upgrade schemes on corridors with demonstrated potential do not have that exotic appeal of a boondoggle. You cannot have politicians running transport nor bankers running casinos. They have the wrong basic instincts.

The real motive behind these megaprojects is population explosion and real estate exploitation. Environmental problems are inevitable. People are starving in Mozambique now but what is the population growth rate?
