Thomas the Tank engine was brought to the 1999 Railfair in Sacramento and immediately developed some kind of ailment. Carl and I were volunteers there for a couple of days and heard all about how they had to actually hide Thomas while repairs were being made so that the kids wouldn't be "traumatized" knowing Thomas was "sick". It was amazing how many people had come to Railfair so their kids could see Thomas. Quite the big following.
