Robert is correct.

I have worked for Roaring Camp RRs in Felton, Calif. Roaring Camp brings one of the unpowered Thomases annually to pull its standard gauge cars partway to Santa Cruz and back. Yes, there's a diesel in the rear providing push power.

But there also are real steam Thomases, and Roaring Camp had been considering bringing in one of them. I don't know if they ever did. At least one if not all of the steam Thomases are narrow gauge, and Roaring Camp's problem is that the NG route is steep and curvy and Thomas might get stuck. Normally, it takes Shays and Heislers to make the grade.
